I'm somewhat new to DUST 514. And for the past week and a half I've been wondering what my place in this vast universe could be.
I've recently been accepted into KEQ, an excellent corp that I highly recomend everyone to take a look at and join if it interests them. I've been having a great time so far.
Beyond that though, I'm not sure what I can do for my team. After doing a bit of digging I found that I wanted to be a drop ship pilot. Despite the large number of complaints I hear about these ships, I still find they play a huge role on the battlefield and it is being severely undervalued. As such, and for those who are interested in this kind of thing, I'd like a bit of advice.
As most of you are no doubt already aware, there are two tiers of drop ships, and two ships in each, making a total of 4 ships. Each ship has advantages and disadvantages over the others, and when it comes to choosing a ship, these pros and cons make it difficult to choose.
Here are some base numbers for everyone to compare. Let's start with the two Caldari ships
MYRON
Shields - 1700
Armor - 1000
Shield Recharge Rate - 23.0/s
CPU - 255
PG - 400
High Powered - 4
Passenger - 5
Low Powered - 2
Small Turret - 2
ERYX
Shields - 1600
Armor - 1000
Shield Recharge Rate - 24.0/s
CPU - 225
PG - 270
High Powered - 4
Passenger - 5
Low Powered - 2
Small Turret - 2
Note: This model comes with an onboard CRU. It is my assumption that the reduced PG compared to it's Tier 1 counterpart is due to this addition.
So as it stands the Caldari look like big shield users, and can potentially be really hard to kill.
Now for the Gallente ships
GRIMSNES
Shield - 700
Armor - 1700
Shield Recharge Rate - 17.0/s
CPU - 165
PG -545
High Powered - 2
Passenger - 5
Low Powered - 4
Small Turret - 2
PROMETHEUS
Shields - 700
Armor - 1900
Shield Recharge Rate - 12.0/s
CPU - 140
PG - 380
High Powered - 2
Passenger - 5
Low Powered - 4
Small Turret - 2
Note: Like the ERYX, this model has an onboard CRU and most likely is the cause for the CPU and PG reduction compared to it's Tire 1 counterpart.
What I like about these is the nice, high armor. If I focus on building shields, I can bring up it's overall longevity by covering it's weakness. The reason why I don't want to bulk up it's armor, is because once I loose my shields and start taking armor damage, it's a lot harder to repair compared to just floating around letting my shields recharge.
I'm not far away from getting Vehicle Operation level 4 which is required to obtain Piloting Level 1. Once I get Piloting level 1 ... I need to make my choice regarding which two ships I want to play with. Some advice on how I should build/equip these vessels wouldn't go amiss either.
Thanks a bunch guys =D
Armored DS are WAAAAAY better if youre trying to attack or as a gunship
FIRST Forge Shots or Swarms dont un stabilize it and make it crash
Second Armor Hardeners are way better than Shield Hardeners
Third More Pg/ Cpu for better things (blasters)
Fourth You can get more HP because you can use a armor rep one 120 plate and 1 60 plate 1 proto pg upgrade + some shield you can get upto 6000 HP (like a tank)
Fifth armor reper are way better than shield boosters ( rep more in less time AND rep all your armor
you can compensate the lack of speed with fuel injectors
aand if your armor begins to burn you can use the reppers you have not like the shield one where you have land to rep
